Secondary teachers in some places in Ontario are on strike. I find this deplorable. The needs of the teacher do not outweigh the needs of the students.

Students will lose momentum, suffer anxiety and may lose part of their school year. The needs of children outweigh the rights of unions.

Big changes have been happening in the teaching and learning community. Lectures from university courses populate youtube. Online courses are prolific.

Online learning still lacks feedback to the learner. Providing feedback is a critical function of teaching. The need to ask questions, the need to have someone look at your work and provide suggestions for improvement, the need for someone to realize that you’re not getting it, or that you are getting it is at least as important as a good lecture. I’m not actually sure teaching as a whole has ever done this part well.
