Back To Picture Books

I first experienced J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings as a teenager. Some creative types at a camp I was working at made it into a game for the campers.

I read The Lord of the Rings while at university (I’m a great procrastinator), and in subsequent years purchased a cassette-tape version produced by the BBC. In the decades that followed I read (multiple reads) The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.

And of course I’ve seen the movies.

Hoping to read the books again I went on the hunt for a large print edition. I stumbled across the 50th Anniversary Edition of Lord of the Rings, and a special edition of The Silmarillion. Both are illustrated. The Silmarillion was illustrated by Ted Nasmith

I can’t really do justice to the quality of these illustrations, nor overstate how much they add to the reading of the original text.
